Arriving in Annecy & 1st day of school

We arrived in Annecy on Sunday afternoon
at 13:30.
{they ONLY use military time here}
It was so funny because when we got off our Train
our whole group was standing together all nervous.
and there was a group of families.
They would call our name to step forward,
and then they would show us who we were going
to live with for the next month!
{awkward way to do it}
haha.

We are living with an older lady named Mary.
She doesnt speak English.
There is also another 20 year old boy from Grenoble living with us too.
We walk into our apartment and she was like this is my room,
but you will be sleeping here.
{she is sleeping on the couch}
i felt so bad, but she was like i do it all the time
{she has been having exchange students for 3 years
and does it everytime}

We all share a bathroom.
its weird. their toilets are in completely different rooms.
they also dont have Air conditioning.
so we keep our window open but its sooo loud.
we'll definitely have to get used to it.
i swear all the dogs and motorcycles and loud people
all hang out outside our place.

So Mary is the typical french woman.
She dresses like she is 20.
She wears these tiny skirts and dresses
and tank tops.
She is very stylish. and tiny.
so she can totally pull it off.

She cooks breakfast and dinner for us everyday,
Luckily we like the same food.
because im fairly picky because of my stomach problems.
They eat bread with EVERYTHING!
with every meal.
The biggest shock to me was that they like warm milk.
yuckkkk.
i had to gag it down.

We were sitting at dinner and she was telling us
that she got Robbed 2 months ago.
They stole all of her platinum and gold jewelry.
Luckily the neighbors here are all good friends to each other
and one of her neighbors followed the robbers
all the way to another city and got them arrested.
But her jewelry was never found.
broke my heart.
but glad they are in jail!

We had our first day of school on Monday.
it went from 9:00-17:30 (9-5:30)
loooong day.
we took a placement test right when we got there.
there was a written test and an oral test.
hahahaha. it was quite the experience for me.
i know nothing.
Then we took a 2 hour walking tour around Annecy
in the blazing heat.
{they literally walk EVERYWHERE}
i have never been more grateful for cars.
{but its probably good because i can walk off all the crepes i eat}
Anyways, when we got back
they went over all the excursions they have planned for us
and lastly we got placed into our groups
i got placed in intermediate.
hahaha. who am i kidding.
i wish.
i am in like the kindergarten of French.

First day of real school was tuesday.
as i was saying,
I am in the very beginner class..... of course.
but ironically....
they were teaching French, in French.
didnt see that coming!

I was totallllllly lost. and a little overwhelmed.
i am the ONLY person who hasnt taken some sort of French before.
There are only 4 Americans in my class
{3 of which are with my group from USU}
We have australians, koreans, russians,
saudi arabians, quatar-ians (spelling?) brazilians, etc.
its crazy how diverse it is.

I wasnt feeling well.... so we went straight home
and i passsssed out.
I got the FLU realllly bad.
it just hit me.
i felt like death.
I slept all day, then all night,
then all day {missed class}
its times like these i wish i were home.
its so scary to be alone sick somewhere where
you cant communicate with anyone

Spencer had class so i was alone for a while.
He has been so cute though.
he biked through town to go to a grocery store
{in the rain}
to get my tortellini because it was the only thing i felt like.
because he said i needed to eat.
he is so sweet.
i have the best husband.
i wouldnt want to do this without him.

Luckily tomorrow is a public holiday so we dont have school
{so i wont be missing anymore school}
we are here for a month
and can only miss 3 days of school in order to pass.
and im already missing our last day because we will travelling to Italy.

Well hopefully Friday goes better.
Love you all.

Au Revoir for now.
