Lucerne, Switzerland

{Swisse on top, English on Bottom}

Oh man.
This trip was QUITE the adventure
to say the least. haha.
So for some reason i thought we were only in Annecy for 3 weeks
not 4 weeks.
And i knew that our Switzerland trip was the middle weekend.
{not knowing there were 2 middle weekends}
So we get packed and Spencer goes to get the rental car place
and they are like "your reservation isnt until next weekend"
and in his mind he just thought, oh that was probably just a mistake.
The lady luckily had a car and just switched the reservation.

Spencer gets back and he tells me about it,
and neither of us even think twice about it.
So we get on the road
{its about a 3 hour drive total}

So Spencer and i are normally great with directions and maps.
but driving in Europe is craziness.
None of the signs are the same.
and there are like a million lanes, forks, and exits
oh and toll roads everywhere.
{so grateful driving in America is free}
Anyways, and we go through a toll
and there was an immediate fork around a corner
that we needed to take but was impossible from our lane.
so we turn around and tell the lady at the toll about what happened
{Crabby old laby}
she was so mean and made us pay 18,90 Euro
it was timestamped so she totally knew!
(which is about $30 us dollars) to turn around.
then we have to repay to get back in.
Then about 5 min later.
We have to buy a sticker to be able to drive in Switzerland.
40 Euro ($60 us dollars)
very frustrating start.

But we are determined...
we continue on.
About 2 hours in, we stopped in Bern
{our directions even told us too}

We stopped mainly just to see the Bern Temple.
It was the first temple in Europe.
{click here} for some really interesting facts
We were wanting to do a session.
But the temple was closed from June 6-20th for cleaning.
{our 2 middle weekends were the 10th and 18th}
boo.
Even though we couldnt go inside
 we still wanted to go see it.
So we walked around the grounds,
and took pictures.
and i even snuck in a nap.
it was wonderful!

{i adore my husband}

{beautiful}

We stopped to eat at a little restaurant {picture below}
all old people inside. haha.
it took an hour to just get our food.
it was really yummy though.

Its about 3:00pm by now.
Its the craziest/most frustrating thing to get lost in Europe.
{not to mention they are crazy drivers}
but if you miss a fork or exit.
You cant just get off the next exit
and turn around and then get back on.
it takes like a half an hour to get back onto your route.
We left at 8:45 am.
Should have only taken us 2 hours.

At this time we realized that maybe we went the wrong weekend.
We checked the hotel reservation.
and yes, it wasnt until the 18th.
We were worried about our hotel because it had just opened Monday.
We were there Saturday.
We didnt know if it would even have any extra rooms since it was so new.

We finally got to Lucerne.
It was soooo cute.
A smaller town.
Still pretty touristy, but where isnt in Europe.
We got to our hotel and they luckily had a room!!!
we were soooo relieved!
{we were the first ones to stay in our room!
because the hotel just barely opened}
it was soooo nice.
some pictures:

{the shower was a real rain head. not one that just sprays straight down. divine.}

 {all marble}

{from our bed}

{plus the mini bar was full of non-alcholic drinks
 and lots of goodies that were all free}
thanks to daddy for being a platinum elite member!

We are true believers of Lonely Planet.
Such a good guide for travelling.
We searched Lucerne and wrote down our top things to see.
And there was a Restaurant called Le Terrazza,
that was rated #1 in Lucerne,
and #3 in Europe!

We decided this weekend we were gonna have a fancy date.
The food was AMAZING!!!!!
and the desserts were mouthwatering.
It was about $90 for our meal.
But soooo worth it!

We ended up going again the next day,
we couldnt pass it up!
We also saw a lot of famous monuments and things.
{I will post pictures in the next post}

We headed back Sunday night.
{some background info- Spencer lost his license in Logan before we left}
He had been driving and we passed over this huge bridge
and pulled over to take some pictures.
He had a feeling that i should drive.
So we hop in the car, me in the drivers seat.
And we get on the road.
Literally within a minute or 2
a BMW SUV pulls in front of us
that has an electronic marquis in the back window
it was all in German.
I saw a word that looked like police but didnt think anything of it
because an ambulance passed us.
So i kept driving.
Next thing i know.....
There is an arm out the window signalling me to pull over.
It finally clicked. oops.

We were getting pulled over.
I wasnt technically supposed to be driving because im not 25.
{you are supposed to be 25 to drive a rental car}
but i had my license.
I was so nervous.
{i dont have a great track record with cops}
They ended up being way funny.
joking with us.
asking us about what we are doing here.
how we are liking living in France.
Turns out its illegal to pull off the side of the road anywhere!
It is supposed to be a 1,000 CHF ticket (about $1,200 us dollars)
They let us go!
Whewww!!!!

So glad we made this trip.
We loved Switzerland, it was beautiful!
